I looked at my library (by that I mean 2 book shelves) today and feeling a sense of guilt picked up Borges' Aleph today. I was promptly greeted by this.
The devices may or may not be listening to us, but we must be fearful of the books, for they are sensing our thoughts.
𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝑰 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝑳𝑴𝒔 ?
I asked the usual suspects Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini this question
𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒎 𝑰 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝒐𝒓 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆?
And the TL;DR of the answers I got was
1.𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬. You come to me with tasks: one-off efforts, already chosen and scoped. Ask me to help you choose the tasks. Bring me the projects that span years and the decisions that shape them, not just the work that falls out afterward.
2. 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 Have me attack your work as its harshest reviewer before anyone else sees it.
I know #2 is something that a lot of people do, so that's likely my specific blind spot, and I think that's fair.
#1 is more interesting, I think many people might get this response if they ask this question. I am not sure I want to do that, even if it gets better results. Would you?
