Absolutely agree with Ken here. Incredibly spot-on and powerful analysis from @jengerson. If you have been struggling to understand what Danielle Smith is doing, this is a must read. We are a province adrift from leadership. #ableg
@laurby Such a shame. Dan Jones was widely respected by some of the best cops I knew. He also was critical of over-exertion of police authority. I suspect he just didn’t want to be a pawn in a ridiculous power struggle.
@Aerin_J And even if you were to review the process of developing a response, you will find that Nations face internal consultation costs (travel, honoraria, space) and are not equipped organizationally to do it. Most municipalities have a planner, policy analyst, engineers to call on.
@Aerin_J IMHO, a review of the entire process of developing a response needs to be done. Even for non Indigenous respondents, it’s a taxing process. So much $ bleeds out of community to consultants who form a boilerplate response but it does not build expertise in community
@Aerin_J I think true academic reconciliation is not just teaching about history. It’s having unis partner and invest in communities to get outcomes. And outcomes need to be established jointly.
@Aerin_J Scientific, no. They are at mercy to govt funding formulas that are dispersed as triage and insufficient. Nations struggle to meet core needs that they don’t have ability to invest in the nice to haves. Govt staff are well aware of challenges but at mercy of pol budget cycle
@ianhanomansing If you’re not needed to be in-person client facing, it’s often a means of insecure leadership needing to see people at their desks as a security blanket. Plus too many employers have eroded the office experience with things like open floor plans and hotelling desk space.
