@tonsmit So yes, the publicly funded bit of my research (the PhD) is available for free, the book, which builds on & expands the thesis, & which was not publicly funded, is not.
@tonsmit In the UK if a PhD is publicly funded (as mine was) you can get the PhD for free, but unfortunately unless you get a grant (to develop the thesis) which allows for open access publishing then we have to follow the costs set by the publishers - some, like Penn, are non-profits.
@tonsmit Your tweet is certainly “interesting” in that you’re assuming to know things about my research background & argument without knowing me or even having read the book.
In England, colonization was not exclusively an affair of the male educated elite. @mishaewen argues for the inclusion of individuals across the whole social spectrum to fully understand colonizing enterprises. Read @JorisvandenTol s review in TSEG https://t.co/zNgfUEkq7j

@HistoryHannahB @ChampsCampUK My grandad was a boxer in the late 60s - I think probably training at the same gym because think that was where all the Black Caribbean young boxers went? So great you’re doing this research.
totally dreamy day exploring Ham House with @MsKerryApps and @mishaewen, talking 17th century women and global objects. Came for the paintings & cabinets but left with a new obsession with the brocaded reclining nap chairs.
Thank you @lauren_working for this review! It really means a lot when someone engages so closely with your work & has such thoughtful reflections too @enghistrev
