Our non-denominational church has donut holes for the kids after the service.

Today, as my daughter was waiting in line two young black boys who recently started attending cut her in line and were taking as many donuts as they could carry. The poor woman stationed there to police the donut stand was hollering at them but they didn’t stop until the bowl was empty.

(Mind you the donut supervisor position is new, it didn’t exist 3 years ago but changing consumer habits necessitated the position).

I looked around for the mother (I don’t think a father is present) but she wasn’t around. I was so angry I decided not to react because my reaction was going to get us thrown out. I’ll have a conversation with the mother next Sunday if I see her.

Now there are two schools of thought here:
1. Tell the boys how to properly behave and be considerate of others. Be part of the positive influence of changing their behavior. Inform the mother of their behavior. Set a good example for them.

And then there’s my school of thought which is:
We have been trying to assimilate the black population into white Christian society for 300+ years. Today they make up the vast majority of violent criminals per capita. Stores in black areas have to lock merchandise. Missionaries have been working in Africa for hundreds of years, as well as in our inner cities, with no visible change.

So while you may be able to help them in a 100% authentic Christian conversion, history would suggest that within a few generations you will still get Atlanta, or Zimbabwe.

I believe this comes from an inherently distinct morality. On the one side, the white European races which are predisposed to self-denial and sacrifice for the sake of the group outside of the immediate family; Vs. the sub-Saharan African races which seem to only practice self-denial for the sake of the immediate family at best.

One can have access to an open bowl of donuts and take only 2 or 3, the other requires an enforcement officer to keep them from taking them all.

I believe the world shows this racial and moral distinction to be true when looking at Africa vs. The USA, or even Atlanta vs eastern Idaho.

If this were purely an issue of Christian vs non-Christian, Liberia (with an almost 100% black African population, 85% Christian) should be a very high-functioning, high trust society. It’s a sh*t hole.

So what is the white Christian to do? Do you coach these boys and their mother as you would any other church member, with all the evidence suggesting within 20 years you will have more of them in your community (who may even claim to be Christian) producing an overall negative effect on the local society?

I’m looking for some sort of evidence to suggest that being welcoming to them now, and treating them as any other church member, will in 2-3 generations produce a healthy black component of the population that is productive and an overall net positive.

If not, what are we to do? Segregation is dehumanizing. Do you set aside a new state for them within our borders? Do you deport them? To where?

It seems like we’re stuck in this endless societal trend where we continue to help entire races of people which continue to make our cities uninhabitable over time. And I don’t know the right way to approach that.
