Alarming update from Physicians for Human Rights: Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya reports continued severe beatings in Israeli detention, including on sensitive areas of his body, with hands, boots and batons, alongside deliberate sleep deprivation and threats not to disclose his detention conditions to his lawyer.

Despite his deteriorating health and recent transfer to the Ramla Prison medical facility, Israeli authorities continue to obstruct access to an independent physician. Abu Safiya has been held without charge or trial since December 2024.

Urgent appeal to save the child Laila Suhail Al-Bahisi from the city of Deir al-Balah, who has been suffering since birth from severe difficulty in swallowing and absorbing and relies on tube feeding. The child is in urgent and continuous need of medical follow-up due to frequent infections and her high oxygen requirement at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. She also needs a special low-protein medical milk, examinations, and treatment that are not available locally in Gaza, and a medical referral has been prepared for her to receive treatment abroad. We appeal to the relevant authorities and humanitarian institutions to urgently intervene to provide the special milk and complete her travel procedures before her condition deteriorates.

I don’t know who will care about what I’m saying, but the situation here in Gaza is literally spiraling out of control in a terrifying way.

We are living in an area that makes up no more than 30% of the entire Gaza Strip, and this area has been reduced to rubble and tents. We are besieged by land, sea, and air. There is no real way out and nowhere we can escape to. There are cranes and massive sand embankments surrounding Gaza, and people are living under constant surveillance and fear. You cannot leave, and you cannot choose where you want to go. All you can do is wait.

Water stations have almost completely stopped operating because fuel and oil have run out. The tents have been torn apart and worn down by the extreme heat, and people are living inside them in conditions that are impossible to describe. Hospitals have been extensively destroyed, with medicines and medical supplies unavailable, and even basic diagnostic and treatment equipment has become extremely scarce. Almost everything is prohibited from entering Gaza, and even what is allowed in is subject to approval and restrictions.

The entire education system has collapsed. Schools have been destroyed, children have been deprived of their education, and families are sleeping on the streets or living in tents that offer no protection from the extreme heat, cold, or any other danger.

The reality here is far worse than anything I can write. Words cannot convey the scale of what we are experiencing, and no single photograph can show what it is like to watch an entire city collapse before our eyes.

We are not living a normal life. We are simply trying to survive. Besieged from every direction, without a home, without safety, and without any clear way out.

Infant Rawda Abu Zarqa is suffering from a serious and rapidly deteriorating medical condition, with doctors suspecting a rare inherited metabolic disorder. She has an enlarged liver, severe growth failure, difficulty feeding, recurrent episodes of dangerously low blood sugar, and markedly elevated lactate and liver enzyme levels.
Doctors say she urgently needs to travel abroad for specialized genetic and enzyme testing to reach an accurate diagnosis and begin appropriate treatment, as these specialized services are unavailable in Gaza.
Every delay could put her life at further risk. She urgently needs to be transferred for specialized medical care before it is too late.
