@brjxv Occupational Therapy is an option, but even then it’s good to be cautious. The best thing to do is to challenge the narrative that every autistic child or person *needs* therapy, and to advocate for more accessible and neurodiversity affirming environments instead!

@blue_pal I met someone at orientation who said her BSW field placement was doing “the good kind” of ABA. I didn’t have the spoons to educate at that moment, but it’s social workers like this that normalize abuse and harm to people they’re claiming to “help.”

@HeyChristaMarie It should be mandatory *supporting.* We need to better equip faculty with resources and training in trauma informed care re: SV and DV so that they can present students with options. Not a punitive justice process that essentially outs them along the way. Oy 😮‍💨

As someone very newly identified autistic, I really struggle with the fact that there are so many in social work who think ABA is okay, or that there’s a “good” and “bad” ABA. It’s all bad! I’m interested in how other autistic social workers handle this in social settings
