This year I started using @AdrienneGear’s Powerful Writing Structures to teach writing & I am BLOWN AWAY at the quality of writing I am getting from my students. BRB as I get back to marking as I am LOVING reading these “walking stories”. Thank you for your wisdom, Adrienne!
And @pernilleripp was the inspiration behind tomorrow’s lesson- “speed dating” with picture books for my Jr High students to choose one to study over the next little bit. Trying to instil a #LoveOfReading along with pushing the idea that picture books are #ForEveryClassroom
I also recently attended PD with @KarenFilewych and combined with her freewriting and techniques for teaching the power of multiple drafts, I feel like I’m finally “teaching writing, not just assigning writing tasks!” #ResourcesWorthCheckingOut#MySundayExcitement
Tough losses in semis for both sets of Jr Wildcats. Thanks to officials and @ECKSchool organizers for a good weekend. Huge thanks to our parents and supporters in Wildcat Country for cheering us on! #GoWildcats!
Good morning Twitter world! One of my goals this school year is to read more professional development books. Please give me your favourite suggestions! (Currently looking for resources with classroom management & junior high literacy themes) #TIA
When purchasing items for Orange Shirt Day / National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30th), show solidarity & support Indigenous creators.
Be conscious that some corporations/businesses are selling items with no commitment to Indigenous communities.
Lots of people saying they've no words. You have to find the words. Silence is not an option. We’ve had years of silence. Demand more from yourself, from your community, from this country, from leadership. We need words, and we need action. Every child matters.
If you are looking for a hilarious read aloud to teach inferring, or maybe just for fun- check this out. My students and I laughed through the entire book! Love using picture books in my lessons.
Hey! I’ve got a book giveaway for you! I’m giving away a copy of Ancestor Approved, an incredible anthology of connected short stories by Indigenous writers from across turtle island. Like, follow, retweet, whatever. I’ll give away a copy in a few days! #ownvoices#giveaway
What do we do in Gr 5 on a Friday before Spring Break? Egg Scavenger Hunt of course! Students weren’t even that disappointed to find sentences they had to edit inside their finds. 😂 Now we’re ready to recharge over the next few days! 🎉
We had an AMAZING virtual field trip today in Grade 3! So cool to learn about and see the animals and their habitats in real time- thank you @calgaryzoo! Afterwards, we presented our own gorilla habitats to our classmates. #WildWednesday
Just reflecting that one year ago today I was so excited to share my birthday with my first class of students ever, and in a crazy turn of events all AB students remained home from this day until the end of the school year. Can’t believe that it has been a year!
