@KristanRooke@clclyne Yaasss!! Marie Battiste is one of my absolute favourites! Studied a few chapters from that book this past year and they're phenomenal!
@sgthomas1973 I feel like, in theory, it would be most ideal to chat with Ps about the issues, but some Ps are not interested in this convo. Using books for Ss to have these discussions abt why this language is inappropriate can help change this behaviour #edchat
I found this to be an important piece in beginning the conversation in anti-racist education. Ss are never too young to learn how to be social justice advocates #edchat
@tomwhitby It's difficult to not be political. To be neutral is to be on the side of the oppressor (Desmond Tutu). White folks need to get uncomfortable in order to teach about these injustices, otherwise we continue the oppressive cycle #edchat
@mssackstein @MsCruzMelrose Absolutely! I have completed some of these tests myself and it is an eye-opening and interesting exercise that I recommend others complete as well! #edchat
@ShiftParadigm@tomwhitby @sgthomas1973 @HarveyAlvy1 I don't think age is a requirement. Being a social justice advocate at a young age can start with learning how to respect and appreciate others' differences that make them unique #edchat
There is also a vast selection of literature, resources, etc. for Ts to use in classrooms to address inequality and racism. Not only for Ss but it is also critical for Ts to educate themselves on these issues so that these discussions can be had #edchat
A6: more emphasis on building relationships than curriculum. Letting students lead more and feel confident in the classroom. Of course, more mindfulness practice as well. Pause and reflect and meditate in experiential learning #teachmindful
A2: I think having some sort of social media or technology already incorporated into daily learning would help this kind of transition more. Also learning to take more pauses throughout the day to refresh and reflect #teachmindful
I believe I will have a greater emphasis on mindfulness and wellbeing upon returning. Remembering to take those pauses during class time and help students be in tune to their needs. Also finding new ways to integrate technology into learning.#edchat
@AmandaSteel12 @daniellemancine @Kiran68407703@HussainIqraa Cosmic yoga can be found on YouTube to do altogether! They have all sorts of themes--Minecraft, fairytale, etc. Really fun, engaging, and relaxing!
@MelissaLangill2@tomwhitby Our board covers a vast area in NWO and many communities have poor access to wifi. The board provided laptops for kids and also wifi but through the school. So families can sit in their cars in the parking lot of the school to access wifi #edchat
@_Josanna Absolutely! I think this pandemic has made Ss/Ts/Families realize that grades and curriculum isn't everything. It's experiences in learning, growing, curiosity that drive education #edchat
@Kiran68407703 I have done some cosmic yoga and other meditation with students in the past and they really enjoyed the relaxation! I def think mindfulness needs to be a focus once we return as it will be an odd time #edchat
