I told my dad, who has been living in the U.S. for many years, that I needed foodstuffs for school. I didn’t even ask him for money at first because my mum usually handles my expenses and school needs. After we spoke, he later sent me $5,000.

To confirm how I used it, he asked me to take pictures of what I bought, which I did. But then he called me and questioned if that was really what I spent the entire $5,000 on. I explained that things are expensive here in Nigeria and the money wasn’t even enough.

After that, he got upset, blocked me on WhatsApp, and even told my mum to stop supporting me.
