@DrRantAllDay I had my child during my PhD and it was the best decision given my circumstances (also helped I had a working spouse and supportive PhD advisor). You'll never have an irregular work schedule like grad school again. Go for it! Life is too short to have regrets.

@bethanyshondark @DNewsOpinion I rushed around last week to four stores in Rockville before I could find any children's ibuprofen when my toddler came down with the flu. @rmc031 a mechanism through which they can better understand how their caregiving approaches fit into the broader distribution of empathetic caregiving.
@rmc031 It would make sense then that women without children or who do not want children aren't necessarily going to experience a maternal instinct because their bodies didn't need to adjust to activate that biological duty.
@rmc031 She falsely conflates Darwinism & Social Darwinism & fails to account for decades of neuro bio & anthro research on the hormonal & physical changes mothers experience. Repression of women != motherly instincts aren't real! Manifestation of those instincts kicks in after a birth.
@shahh_hema@J2dubyas Over 75% of AU econ's doctoral students and ~40% of faculty are female. There's definitely not a dearth of female talent available for recruitment, just likely variation in what the search committees value.
