@surlybassey @haymarketbooks Yes!
One of my favorite collections ever. I love the Alexis Deveaux interview, and, of course, the Gayl Jones one. Claudia Tate's expert interview/conversation skills must be praised. Thank you for sharing the word of the good works of @haymarketbooks!
@steve_dickison@katewebb_uk@jstheater @hystericalblkns @EnglishNewark Sorry to take so long to respond, and you might have found this info by now. Gayl Jones' published a critical text, MINDING THE WORD, dedicated to the writings of her mother, Lucille Jones. There is at least one back-issue of the journal, CALLALOO, featuring the two.
Santa Clarita, California after hitting near 110F this afternoon was just hit by a hellacious severe thunderstorm
bringing 60 mph wind gusts, hail, heavy rain and frequent lightning.
Incredible swings in weather in SoCal.

I watch TO SLEEP WITH ANGER almost every year to get my Mary Alice-Sheryl Lee Ralph fix. It's time, and time for a Mary Alice tribute series in this house.
@ShanteParadigm I've been program director (chair), which rotates among faculty, and in the main, amongst faculty and our students, it was great professionalization and collaborative visioning, but when the Rona hit, it got HARD. Admin. Care. Boundaries. Race. Class. Gender. Map it. Whew.
@ShanteParadigm I threw myself into that work and quickly learned that DEI is just not the way to recover from racial violence at your institution. Like I needed to help them learn to help, support + protect me and others. Trauma is a curious creature.
So many feelings... Kudos to playwright Kristin Greenidge, and all who worked 11 years to make this happen.

“Every so often, we get a 1619 Project from the majors,” [Fugate] said. “I just hope we continue to have stores that will support Black Classic Press and Africa World Press and [Baltimore-based] African World Books." +
