The teacher-vs-teacher and school-vs-school competition culture is damaging for education in the long run, IMO.

“My results.” “Our results.” “We outperform them.”

There are almost always factors that help explain why one teacher or school gets “better” exam outcomes than another:

• Covert or overt selection
• Differences in cohort background and prior attainment
• EAL and demographic factors
• Environmental and hereditary factors
• How heavily the school prioritises academic outcomes
• Parental attitudes to education, tutoring and support at home
• Cohort sizes

Teaching/Schools matter when it comes to exam outcomes but no where near as much as ppl often suggest.
