The term “global south” is coined to exclude the weight of the most. It is language and phrases like this that continue to downplay Africa at large. We are indeed the global majority. If it matters in our economy and consumership it should matter in everything else.

@AyubAbdikadir There is no dehumanizing of global south in this case but it's sticking to journalistic principles you learned. London has hosted the event before hence Nairobi can't even be equaled to it and Africa takes the prominence for hosting it for the first time. Nairobi comes second.

Everyone and all kinds of population are right here in Nairobi CBD. Kakuma and Dadaab is not how votes will be increased. Those are superstitious fears and fake news. Those who wants IDs have IDs,truth of the matter and they aren’t in the camps!

This interview was 2023 December. Somehow it’s making rounds again but it’s a conversation we must have. Repatriation or Intergration is a good pathway to close the camps. The refugees are tired,the host are tired.

I fully support Women Rep Umi Harun on this. Somali refugees have lived in Kenya for generations, since 1991 over three decades now. If they have made Kenya their home for that long, why shouldn’t they be given identification and, the right to vote and elect their leaders?

And in all honestly,if you want a Kenyan ID you can get one by virtue of marriage? Any refugee in the camp without a Kenyan ID is because they don’t want it. Most of those in the camps have a pathway to resettle in abroad and they don’t want to ruin it.
