Probably the best thing you'll see today.
In 2017, a group of developers hilariously competed for who could create worst volume control interface in the world.

@KlausKblog@UndercoverDane@ThomasResen@kasper2619 @MadsDaug @KasperJuel4@MrJokinen Bellingcat didn’t do that analysis, I did. It’s not wrong - it shows as clearly as a fingerprint that the explosion sound in the Russian video is identical to the source it was taken from. If you really believe you can prove otherwise, show your own analysis.
I was reading a thread at the weekend about a 🇷🇺 false flag video and one of the contributors (@AugustGraham) asked for help analysing some audio. As that’s my area of expertise I had a go and was able to help verify that it was faked. Summary here from @EliotHiggins 1/x
@foodz Nothing that isn’t already in my timeline. Joking aside it’s a frustrating aspect of this line of work that the stuff you really want to talk about is nearly always under wraps.

Anatomy of a Russian Seperatist False Flag - On February 18th the Telegram channel of the press service of the People's Militia of the Donetsk People's Republic published the following video, claiming to show a sabotage operation targeting chlorine tanks

Apologies to the people who’ve followed me based on this - you’ve signed up for a handful of boring tweets a year mostly about #gameaudio, not cool audio detective stuff. (But hit me up if I can help again in future) 5/5
…but if it helps people see more clearly, makes it harder for the disinfo to work, creates a more accurate historical record, that’s all important work and I’m happy I was able to contribute. 4/x
@AugustGraham@EliotHiggins@bellingcat@foodz I went back to check 1 more thing in the spectrogram - the explosion cutting off as spotted by @AugustGraham. The big arrow shows the v abrupt end of the matching material. The smaller arrows show the voices (horizontal lines indicate pitched sounds), in the M72A5 video only.
@AugustGraham@EliotHiggins@bellingcat@foodz Here's a spectral analysis of the pairs of explosions in the 2 vids, channels from top: DNR vid L/R, M72A5 vid L/R. Sync is perfect. I've highlighted some distinctive features which are identical, many others are visible. There's no question the explosion audio is identical.
@Turkuc_Podjadeq@AugustGraham@EliotHiggins@bellingcat@foodz Many audio editors / DAWs can display spectrograms including free ones like Audacity. Mine are from iZotope RX8. All do the same thing, it’s just a different way of visualising a piece of audio, showing frequency distribution as well as amplitude over time.
