Every society has a Bra Kofi.
Mine was a self-taught auto-technician at Suame Magazine in Ghana.
He could whip up carbide fireworks and several goofy but delightful gizmos.
He exuded a different kind of intelligence from the one I have encountered a lot in my adult life in lecture rooms and book pages.
He was the childhood inspiration behind our turning of milk tins into swanky cars and wood scraps into birdcages.
My TEDxBerlin talk asks a disturbing question: as we put more intelligence into machines, are we creating fewer spaces where humans learn, improvise and think together?
For Africa, the danger is even deadlier. AI can help us produce polished contracts, reports and manuals while leaving factories, farms and workshops untouched. We may automate the *façade* and neglect the engine room.
The ease with which AI can make our setups look sophisticated on the outside but hollow on the inside can actually hold us back in our industrialisation drive.
The alternative is to build for the Bra Kofis: connect tacit knowledge to sensors, credentials, capital and institutions through a new generation of cross-thinkers. Might you be one, a cross-thinker?
AI’s future should not belong only to Big Tech and the few big moneybags in Silicon Valley. It should be inherited by the MANY in Suame and beyond.
Watch the talk, then think about it: are there still some Bra Kofis in your world? Waiting to be recognised and amplified?
If so, be on the lookout: the "social edge framework" was built for that mission. We would like you onboard.

@mytheoz A lot of dissatisfaction is brewing from the lack of concern to repair bad road networks in the capital. Affecting productivity and businesses. Funds must be released to tackle the capitals road infrastructure.
@mytheoz As much we want to celebrate the economic gains made, Doc please let those in power know there are urgent needs Ghanaians need the government to tackle, take the bad state of mallam to kasoa road. This is just a fraction of major deplorable road conditions in the capital.
@mrhgovgh I hope these are not finished roads, because there are no road markings and the quality of the asphalt seems, maybe it's the first layer but please ensure quality work is done 👍
His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in consultation with the Oyoko Royal Family has today named Odehyie Nana Ama Bonsu as the new Asantehemaa, ushering in a new chapter in the leadership and traditions of Asanteman.
May her reign be blessed with wisdom, strength, and unity as she serves Asanteman and upholds the rich customs and heritage of the Golden Stool.

Whilst we rightly abhor the many negative stereotypes about Africa, sometimes even the positive stereotypes hold us back.
Like the idea that Africa is a lush, green, continent.
If you fly as much as I do, you can't help but notice on descent how ungreen the continent is becoming and how greener cities in Europe, for e.g., have become.
The WHO says the average person needs a minimum of 9 square meters of green space to be healthy (ideally, 50 square meters.) Most major African cities barely provide 3 square meters.
I have attached a brief list of cities around the world & what percentage of their landmass is covered by greenery. It's really something.
Part of the problem is the "aniteɛ" concept I was describing last time where each person maximises their strategic intelligence and the whole society becomes dumber as a result.
One easy example: how mega-developers behave in Accra.
The Accra Mall has triggered a new high end district around Boundary Road. Expensive condos all over.
Yet, each developer has decided in their boundless wisdom not to spend any land on pavements. Like zero pedestrian walkways. Forgetting that the prices of condos are affected not just by the quality of the build but also how livable the neighbourhood is. Green spaces don't just clean the air; they also minimise flooding and heat waves.
Would smart folk who won't even sacrifice a bit of profit for pavements create any green space? Would municipalities who make their money from commercial buildup care about pavements and green parks?
Your guess is as good as mine.

Roundabouts are meant to keep traffic moving. In Accra and Tema, many are doing the opposite.
The Fourth Estate examined roundabouts across the two cities and uncovered a worrying pattern of neglect that is contributing to congestion.
