Bombed a lesson hard today, prompting this exchange:
Me: “Are you getting this at all?”
Students: “Not really.”
Me: “Ok, my bad.”
Student: “It’s ok Mr. Carter. We can tell you’re trying really hard.”
Relationships matter. Relationships allow you to try again tomorrow.
This year’s 1st day of school looks a little different than the rest. Baby Wesley made his debut on Monday, so yesterday was full of baby snuggles instead of student hugs & high fives. Year 10 & @512Hawks, I’ll see you soon!

"Perfection is impossible.
In the 1,526 singles matches I played in my career, I won almost 80% of those matches.
But what percentage of points did I win?
54%
In other words, even top ranked tennis players win barely more than half the points they play.
When you lose ever second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot.
You teach yourself to think:
'Okay, I double faulted...it's only a point.'
'Okay, I came to the net and I got passed again...it's only a point.'
Even a great shot, an overhead backhand smash that ends up on ESPN's top 10 playlist – that too is just a point.
Here's why I'm telling you this.
When you're playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. And it is.
But when it's behind you, it's behind you.
This mindset is crucial – because it frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, and focus."

JUST IN: The parents of PGA tour golfer Grayson Murray have confirmed that their son took his own life.
Murray took his life after he withdrew on Friday during the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge.
“We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support,” his parents said.
“Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”
Grayson previously opened up about his struggles and how it impacted his family.
Heartbreaking.
I have to give a shoutout to my friend and teammate @MrsKomp. Every week she meets with a couple students to discuss Project Lit books. It’s not a big group, and yet every week she makes time before school for these students who are reading books outside of school!
