@Admalez@guidoacasa Dropping from 30 to 20 mph cuts impact force in half and stopping distance by 40%, keeping pedestrian fatality risk under 5%. Going lower yields diminishing returns, as the safety gains from 20 to 5 mph are marginal and less significant than going from 30 to 20 mph.
@Forthelols12@MikeyCycling "Control" = giving people options? Right. Funny how it’s "socialism" when public money funds a bike lane, but perfectly fine when billions in taxpayer cash subsidizes your driving.
@QuinlanQuinlan@francesca_kms Lol, this is saying each person is doing a similar amount of trips and similar distance, which has nothing to do with the amount of people cycling.
It would make sense that as more pick up cycling, the average distance would drop as more novice cyclists are doing less distance.
@Wilbert90210@NirvanaCraig@BBCLondonNews Cyclist already do, just like they pay for the roads as well as it comes from general taxation. Who do you think is paying for them?
@IslingtonResid3@neilchristiex@SocEnvJustice@JohnJohnStewart You are making such a bad faith argument. In your hypothetical it would be 0 which is unrealistic. How about you actually provide some facts? Define what you consider 'complete gridlock' and actually state where this is happening.
@IslingtonResid3@neilchristiex@SocEnvJustice@JohnJohnStewart This is a hypothetical that wouldn't exist; however, usually you look at both peak hours and 24hr volumes when analysing travel. So in your hypothetical you would still see volumes in the 24hr counts.
@IslingtonResid3@neilchristiex@SocEnvJustice@JohnJohnStewart You can also use Junction Turning Counts or other days to sense check ATC data. Arguing to "use your eyes" is unreliable, as human perception is frequently misled by bias or selective attention compared to actual objective collection methods.
@IslingtonResid3@neilchristiex@SocEnvJustice@JohnJohnStewart Your argument is flawed. ATCs still count vehicles at low speeds. The only real issue is classification; if a vehicle moves too slowly, the system may reset between axles and miscount. Pneumatic tubes only fail if a car is literally parked on them, requiring a data rerun.
@Wellthatsafirst@AldredKeith There is a huge difference between electric assisted bicycles and what is essentially an illegal electric motorbike. The first one is clearly defined in the regulations.
@TheFox89688362 'People just need to make slight adjustments to their travel to have a significant positive impact for businesses and pedestrians visiting one of the highest footfall areas on Earth.'
