Why do Hall of Fames wait until people die? Why do they adhere to arbitrary categorical rules that really mean nothing and can be changed with fewer than 12 words? Hall of Fames/museums simply tell a story and ceremonies give someone a chance to feel love from family and friends and adoring strangers. Otherwise, these buildings are really meaningless. Why wouldn't one want to do that? You can't tell the story of hockey without the 30ish years Don Cherry and Barry Melrose gave the game via National Television. They both gave THEIR THEIR ENTIRE
LIVES to hockey and the NHL. Imagine how warm a night like that would be make those two GIANTS feel and those of us that loved their entertainment and hearts. Time is limited for both. Cherry is 91 and Barry has Parkinson's. How easy is this? What are we doing?

No one’s hurting more that we are, but we know you’re hurting, too.

No matter where we went, win or lose, you made us feel like we had home-ice advantage every game.

You shook the Civic Coliseum every night we were at home. You matched the energy of the host crowd — no matter how outnumbered you were — when we were on the road.

You threw your caps onto the ice when we scored a hat trick in another state.

On more than one occasion, the “Let’s Go Ice Bears!” chant could be heard in the building and on the broadcast in another team’s barn.

You made a do-or-die road semifinal game feel like we were on home ice.

And, most importantly, you never gave up on us.

As horrible as last season was, you were still there.

When we lost 12 straight games this season, your support never wavered.

When our backs were against the wall in Roanoke, you made the trip anyway.

When our season was on the line in Birmingham, you all showed up in droves.

Nowhere else but Knoxville.

Thank you, Ice Bear Nation, for being the best fans in hockey.
