After an incredible career and years of dedication to Hull hockey, we are announcing that Lee Haywood will be retiring and will not be returning for the 2025/26 season.

Lee has been more than just a player – he’s been a leader, a role model, and a true ambassador for the sport in our city. His commitment, passion, and heart-on-the-sleeve performances have left an unforgettable mark on Hull hockey, and we cannot thank him enough for everything he’s given to the club, his teammates, and our fans.

But before we say goodbye, there’s one last chance to see Lee lace up his skates in the Hull rink…

Thoughts from Matty - “Having Lee agree to play in this is obviously great but the fact he’s playing on my team and not (our team) is a tough one. We’ve had a lot of conversations over the summer about wether Lee is going to play this year or not and he has decided it’s time for him to move on to the next stage of his life and he can’t commit to how much the game requires from you. I just want to say thanks to him for his commitment and effort last season he was awesome for us and he’s a big loss for us. He’s had a great career and it would be nice to see as many people down to celebrate Lee’s career and see him for the last time on the ice! Thanks Lee from all of us at the club and we look forward to seeing him one more time on the Hull ice 🙌🏻🦅”

The main issue with British ice hockey development imo is a lack of access to ice time for young players. I know it is common for kids to only have 1-2 hours of ice per week max at the local rinks during the winter. In the US+Canada kids will skate 1-2 hours each day year round
