Lots to action from this insightful work - greater community engagement, addressing mistrust, raising awareness and knowledge of genetic medicine, the need for better data collection, supporting and diversifying health professionals.
Hot 🔥off the press The 2024 Europe Report of the #Lancet Countdown. Important emphasis that heat related deaths are rising and are disproportionately affecting women.🔥Heat was the focus of our report 'Heat, health and human genetics' https://t.co/msfYn77Nwk
An insightful and thought provoking talk by @emmeslin tonight at the @PHGFoundation WYNG-Hatton lecture. Let’s not drop the ball on AI in health and genomics.
This evenings vote is critical in bringing us one step closer towards the first ever #SmokefreeGeneration. By voting in favour of the age of sale legislation and helping position the UK as a world leader in tobacco control, MPs have listened to the demands of their constituents and placed themselves on the right side of history. It’s essential that this Bill now moves swiftly through Parliament so that it can be implemented as soon as possible. Now is the time to take action, end cancers caused by smoking and save lives.
Having just joined @PHGFoundation this is a great summary of precision medicine and how it might best be used in primary care. Plenty of opportunities but also some important issues to address.
Two world-class research teams – based at @ucl & @DementiasUK at @UniofOxford - will carry out UK-wide clinical trials to identify blood tests to boost dementia diagnosis.
We hope this will lead to blood tests for diagnosing Alzheimer’s & other forms of dementia becoming available on the NHS within five years.
Tackling dementia also means tackling smoking. Up to 5% of dementia cases worldwide could be prevented or delayed by stopping smoking.
We urge MPs to vote in favour of the #SmokefreeGeneration bill. 🚭
Great to see our Chief Exec @HilaryAlzUK speaking at #WIREDHealth about how we’re at a tipping point for change in the diagnosis and treatment of dementia.
But there is so much more to do, and a big role for government and our health service to play.
Delighted @AlzResearchUK supported this conversation expertly chaired by @andrew_harrop. An expert group of charity, industry and NHS representatives highlighted the strength of the UK life sciences sector. Some thoughts 🧵
We know that health inequalities increase the risk of developing dementia. As a member of the Inequalities in Health Alliance, @AlzResearchUK are calling for a cross-government strategy to address the wider determinants of health. #EverythingAffectsHealth

Many thanks to all the people who agreed to be interviewed for this documentary. Without clinical trial volunteers we would have no new medicines. I hope the programme gives a balanced view of the benefits and limits of the new drugs against Alzheimer’s. https://t.co/VVm8aMiRiI
Great to see coverage on @BBC news re treatment for @Alzheimers. Watch @BBCPanorama for the full story where I speak w/@BBCFergusWalsh on new Alzheimer's meds. Benefits are modest but show potential for a new generation of effective therapies. 1/2
