@LaurenDalyce Are supply managed foods more expensive in Canada relative to other foods? Yes. Are supply managed foods more expensive in Canada relative to other animal agriculture foods? Not very.
Thank you to the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Conference for the opportunity to present some of the research that @mikevonmassow and I have been working on.
@LaurenDalyce Yes, but not without limitations. Unweighted average price premium of SM foods in Canada relative to USA is ~30-40%. Chicken prices much higher.
@LaurenDalyce The markets are extremely different, ranging from market size, product quality, pricing strategy, time lag for the exchange rate to impact prices etc. Most food is more expensive in Canada anyways, so the total blame can't go to SM.
@SimonSomogyiAFI @FoodProfessor Do you believe this will ever come to fruition and be the new normal in North America? I loved paying exactly the price on the menu during previous travel.
This week, Ontario is celebrating #LocalFoodWeek! The coronavirus pandemic has shone a light on the importance of buying and eating local food. Ontario produces tons of delicious and nutritious agricultural products. #loveONTfood
Food from Thought and @ArrellFoodInst will be holding an online panel of @uofg experts this week to discuss questions around COVID-19 and its impact on our food systems. If you have a question, please submit it here: https://t.co/zw3NZsYxHM

A balanced perspective on the current state of the dairy industry in Canada. Supply management is not at fault, consumers are not at fault, and farmers are not at fault. Simply a shock to the supply chain.

Spent the day touring @UofGuelphOAC research facilities to learn about the work Masters and PhD students have been focusing on. First stop at the crop science Elora research station and second at the @DairyFacility
This study aligns with what most people in #agriculture already know, consumers with little understanding fear #GMOs. @farmtario
