🚨 BREAKING 🚨 🇬🇧🏀
A three-year interim licence has been awarded by the British Basketball Federation to ensure the future of top-flight hoops this coming season and beyond in the UK.
A new company called Premier Basketball Limited was formed by “a consortium of British clubs” following the termination of the previous licence back in June and PBL will be responsible for league operations in 2024/25 and beyond, ensuring #BritishBasketball fans that we *will* have a league next year.
A BBF statement said: “The award of an interim licence to Premier Basketball Limited enables preparations for the 2024/25 season to be completed and provides a stable basis for the consolidation of progress made in recent years.
“Preparations are already underway for the scoping and invitation to interested parties to bid for a long-term licence, which will underpin the success and sustainable growth of British professional basketball in future years.”
The statement also said that fixtures will be announced in the coming weeks as well as more information about the league itself – a relief given the number of questions that still remain, including over the future of various clubs.
Upon announcing the granting of the licence, Chris Grant OBE, the BBF chairman, added: "I'm delighted that fans, players, staff and partners can look forward with confidence to the continuation of top-level British club basketball.
“The fact that we've been able to move so quickly following the termination of the previous licence is down to the positivity and unity of the clubs, as well as the professionalism and focus of our BBF team and Board.
“The way we've worked together bodes well for the ongoing improvement and alignment of our player pathway so that the wealth of British basketball talent can translate to success on the international stage."
