@formerhero_ Me scrolling through hi hats on Splice: “What’s the big deal, they’re just hats, they all sound the same”.
Me scrolling through kicks: “Wow so THUMP”
When I see that Google might have created a computer with a soul I start to get worried about humanity’s ability to deal with the consequences of artificial intelligence.
Then I see Twitter is still woefully unable to classify topics and I feel better.
I realize I am basically describing the idea of color bass here, and there are probably some @rushdownrecs folks way ahead of me. However, modulating the full chord stack rather than individual elements is a cool idea that I think has been largely unexplored.
The @xavimakesmusic remix of @madeon’s Love You Back has me thinking that the concepts used in color bass (Harmonizing dubstep/riddim sounds using vocoders, convolution reverb, etc.) seem underrated on their ability to fuse melodic dubstep/future bass with dubstep/riddim.
What this unlocks though is the ability to basically write two separate drops, one melodic chord stack (Ex. Seven Lions - First Time) and one rhythmic bass drop and merge them at the end, imbuing the full chord stack with movement.
