In 2025, +121,000 migrants and refugees left the coast of Djibouti to attempt the maritime crossing to the Arabian Peninsula . We surveyed 500 people in Djibouti to understand their journeys. Latest infographic produced with UNHCR ⬇️

1st quarterly update 2026 Eastern & Southern Africa:
Comoros: at least 18 people drowned & 3 remained missing after being abandoned offshore. Survivors indicated that the smugglers left them on a sandbank falsely informing them that they had arrived in Mayotte.
