Taiko's based rollup will be a big step in the direction of improving current limitations in the Optimistic and ZK rollup space.

The rollup types above require specialized infrastructure and security setups to manage L2 txns that at scale creates high costs and reduced efficiency.

In March of 2023, Justin Drake a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, proposed the idea of Based Rollups. The idea allows L1 proposers to collaborate freely with L2 searchers and builders, directly adding Rollup blocks into L1 blocks. Ethereum manages the consensus, data availability, and settlement, while the Rollup network handles transaction execution and state updates.

Taiko, being a Based Rollup, enables these advantages over Optimistic Rollups:
- Reduces potential security risks
- Safer, faster, and more convenient txns
- Reduced latency
- Lower costs at scale
- More consistent long-term economic incentives for L1 miners

The trade off with these benefits means there is a direct reliance on L1 validators, which if $ETH has issues so will based rollups however one may argue $ETH has been battle tested leaving this dependence as a benefit vs an inefficiency. Among other smaller correlative issues, my thesis stands in the long-term noting that Taiko can gain a market advantage due to the technological benefits above as well as what they've showcased as strong early traction and user engagement (they have the largest Discord at 1 million members).

Strong infrastructure to watch for. Should be bullish to see what projects build on their network and Taiko's position in the market in the next 5 years.
