@BombinMedia@BOrtblad Piling are prone to liquidation issues but concrete tunnel should "float" just like the one in Vancouver BC has performed well during prior earthquakes.
mexico city built the longest public transit cable car line on earth in about two years. the dc streetcar took over a decade to open 2.2 miles of track that shares a lane with parked cars. one of these cities is supposedly the rich one
@humantransit I think it is a tradeoff: monorail or https://t.co/JTqjouCZKV makes it far easier to build less bulky elevated lines than light rail does though switches get slightly more complicated
@asher_971 I am excited for the 2 Line but I'm not excited about WS Link and a 2nd downtown tunnel. We should build Ballard/SLU/Westlake first and use short automated trains to reduce cost.
@SeattleOSE@MayorofSeattle@CityofSeattle@c40cities Sounds promising, but what are we actually doing? We still plan to build a light rail extension to West Seattle knowing that the construction will generate 614,000 tons of carbon while expecting low ridership.
@MikeLindblom@SoundTransit@MayorofSeattle We should just interline all lines in the existing tunnel. Not only the best rider experience but cheaper and less disruptive, too! Ballard to Westlake can be a separate automated light metro line.
@AlexKven It would be great if Pioneer Square station would get a tunnel from mezzanine to 2nd Ave, it would avoid escalator ride and most riders want to go west anyways.
@KccClaudia Serving West Seattle via monorail was challenging and so is via Link. Forward Thrust proposed to improve bus service to West Seattle. That would still be the most sensible solution. And automated metro to Ballard/SLU to Westlake.
@ChittiMarco Even worse: the only technical people were outside consultants who produced the powerpoints but are neither available for questions nor responsible for the outcome.
@oowm Wouldnโt it make more sense to prioritize the Ballard/SLU extension (57,000 ridership) and continue to serve West Seattle with BRT for now?

@oowm ST claims in the WSLE EIS a ridership of 27,000 by 2042 and 50% transit time improvement but fails to mention that this will only happen once the 2nd downtown line gets built. They do not mention that will cost extra. In the meantime, they only expect 5400 daily riders.
