"nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished" - Laozi, Tao philosopher
hello! im excited to use this space for creating and sharing educational and critical social justice oriented thoughts & resources, and as a space to practice slowness. all are welcome :)
@LearnWithMrS glad you liked it, i remember having a similiar response when i first learned the term flow-state/flow-theory, to me it was just "being in the zone"
and yah! having students care requires a genuine relationship so that we can help them see themselves in their work and be engaged
ooo i love this, gamification is a powerful tool and can be so helpful in making learning more meaningful and personal for students (this was almost the focus of my research!)
more classrooms need to center fun & memorable learning experiences :') #PLN#CTL1617
Trouble creating engaging and relevant assignments? Incorporating gamification into your assignments is a great way to encourage critical thinking about organizing and synthesizing information into a functional format for gameplay #PLN#CTL1617
just had a classmate forward this to me and wanted to pass it on for anyone else interested ! this land has such an immense history that it's so important to be aware of and to respect as anti-colonial educators, and as settlers.

@LearnWithMrS so so true, especially when the consequences of unaddressed burnout can have long-term consequences on teachers, their students, families, schools, etc. its such a serious and genuine mental health concern that has been made trendy and into buzzwords, hiding how dangerous it is !
been thinking a lot about teacher burnout & how much of the discourse on burnout seems to center superficial/trend-like ideas of "self-care" rather than more meaningful views on the mental health of educators: anyone have thoughts or resources on burnout?
#PLN#CTL1617#burnout
@rchurls i think that's exactly it, and i feel that the place to start changing the larger systems creating burnout is within our local schools, communities, and contexts. individual self-care is inaccessible at worst and eventually-futile at best if no broader progress is being made !
just wanted to shout out the people @learnforjustice ! their site has so many amazing lesson plans and resources that I've found so helpful as I've began teaching more, and really help for centering social justice frameworks in my work :) #PLN#CTL1617

#PLN#CTL1617#antiblackness#education
i read "Equity, inclusion, and antiblackness in mathematics education" by #DannyBernardMartin and really resonated with how he sees the US education system as fundamentally racist, sustaining whiteness by using "equity-work" to avoid pursuing genuine racial justice. #PLN#CTL1617
he argues that true racial liberation in education requires the refusal of white-serving curricula, which has left me thinking about the tension of being part of a system which actively harms BIPOC learners while also trying to advocate for those at-risk, incl. myself...
