SB271 includes a carve-out for incinerators that would allow the Kent County incinerator to continue to inflict harm to communities in Grand Rapids!
There is No Climate Win Without Environmental Justice!
Why do we believe a public power utility can preform better than DTE?
Because the currently existing ones already do.
When utilities are run for people not profits the infrastructure fails less often, it's that simple
.@DTE_Energy executives bragged to shareholders about cutting maintenance to boost profit just days before hundreds of thousands went w/o power for weeks.
Their profits are borne on the costs our communities carry - lost food, wages, medical care.

#GrandRapids city officials need to stop prioritizing the interest of the wealthy.
Because the solution isn't more criminalization; it's housing. (6/6)

We're now at 132,500 people without electricity.
So, to every politician that's taking money from @DTE_Energy and @ConsumersEnergy, and protecting them because of those contributions; You're a part of the problem.
Last year @Stellantis paid a $137K fine as punishment for illegally spewing pollution into Black neighborhoods. For each new violation they pay just $5K in fines. These amounts are meaningless to a company making $12B in 6 months, but the pollution harms our communities forever.
We are deeply disappointed that, despite widespread criticism, the Grand Rapids City Commission voted to adopt new ordinances targeting the unhoused. https://t.co/pOAa9750q0

If these past two months taught us anything, it’s that we need stronger protections against air pollution. I'm introducing the Cumulative Impacts Act to require the EPA to consider the cumulative impacts of pollution in permitting decisions and how they impact our public health.

“The progress represented in the settlement simply wouldn’t have been possible without a strong coalition that recognized the need to center equity and put people first." -@wkenworthy

#DTECanDoBetter advocates across Michigan fought hard for environmental justice + energy equity in @DTE_Energy's long-term energy plan. Today's settlement has real wins - but we won't stop until legislators take action so all of us have clean, affordable, reliable energy.

This week, all of #Michigan has been under an air quality alert. Yet this may not be the last time we see the impacts of Canadian wildfires in our state – and it won’t be the end of #ClimateChange affecting our lives. https://t.co/hnoRqaaJZX
@GovWhitmer has appointed Alessandra Carreon of Detroit to fill the vacancy on the Public Service Commission left by the April departure of Tremaine Phillips.
Carreon is a manager for Carbon-Free Transportation at RMI. #mipol
