Kenyan DJs must now pay an annual Sh20,000 licence to perform at events, clubs, and academies. The new tariff, backed by copyright law, calls playing music in public a commercial act requiring compensation.

Music societies argue DJs exploit others’ intellectual property without payment. However, some DJs question the fee, while licensing bodies KAMP and PAVRISK remain approved amid MCSK’s court challenge.
