Best transition to school my children (in mainstream) have ever had. Can schools make these arrangements to support SEMH needs every year? Rhetorical question.

Let’s imagine an LA professional visits a home educating family. They are surprised to find their 14-year-old sitting in silence facing the wall in a back room with their parent watching from the door.
When they ask what is going on, the parent says ‘It’s our Reflection room. Yesterday they refused to take out their nose piercing and so today they will sit there from 9-4. They can’t talk to anyone and if they do, they’ll be back there tomorrow. They can go to the toilet twice and have a plain ham sandwich and glass of water for lunch. They’ll be sitting there until they have reflected enough to decide to take that nose ring out.’
What should the LA professional do? Is that a suitable education or a reasonable parenting technique? And if not, why is the use of isolation increasingly normalised in our schools?
@emmalgsutton Huge benefits for MH come later on in my opinion, and possibly avoiding MH crisis. Also helps with identity, belonging/finding 'tribe', self advocacy....
What's the most important thing to do if your child is struggling to go to school, or even hasn't attended for months? It's not to force them back in as quick as possible - because you've been told that if you don't, they might get used to being at home and never go back. 1/
