Before streaming, I was a big DVD collector. I bought nearly a thousand movies. I thought I was building a library. And I will tell you a secret:
DVDs rot.
The glue that holds the layers together can become opaque so the laser doesnβt read the disc properly or it can simply degrade so the disc falls apart or it can warp or expand so the disc wonβt spin properly in the drive.
So, in addition to needing to keep antique hardware with delicate moving parts in working order to play these games or watch these movies, the media itself is degrading.
Yeah, your purchased digital movie might get deleted from the network over rights issues at some point in the future or the service that provides it might shut down. But if you buy a BluRay and put it on a shelf for five years and then decide to watch it, there is a decent chance it wonβt work.
I love a beautiful Criterion movie box set or a game with cool box art and a manual as much as the next guy, but people overly romanticize physical media. The universe is governed by entropy and everything is falling apart.
Yesterday the tummy troubles came back, so today we got a diagnosis of "feline coccidiosis". She has 2 prescriptions to treat it and I hope it works because I can't throw out any more furniture π«
@JaggedAuthor I hope so too. I can't buy new furniture every two weeks π« She seems better already, but I feel like I'm traumatizing her by giving her medicine.
A super fun thing about cats is sometimes they get diarrhea and it freaks them out/hurts so they sprint out of the litter box while still actively shitting liquid and then, associating the litter box with unpleasantness, piss in the cloth basket thingy on the cat tree instead π«
I'm sitting here losing my mind because I haven't seen Obsession yet, so I'm like "could a 12 year old see it? How bad could it be?" Then I looked at the parents guide...lol nevermind. Let's not traumatize him today.

@JaggedAuthor I had to do that several years ago. The prep is the worst part. Well, that, and being told "you have to fart before you can leave the hospital" π
@JaggedAuthor You have a doctor and made an appointment...you are two steps further than I am lol. I hope they find nothing wrong and it eases your mind a bit.
