@olsensean908 It seems that social media already became a "socially required" tool of self expression. I think teens will continue get involved. There is always going to be the next big social media platform.
@VandeneedeMatt I think this is all going to fall under self-regulating your online usage. No business would shoot themselves in the leg by limiting access to their product.
@julclassaccount I think people might find it hard to differentiate the social norms of the internet and the real world. I know people who regularly use "lol" while talking face to face.
“social networking services appear to be no more problematic, addictive, or even habitual than others despite their widespread popularity” (LaRose, 2011). Why do you think this statement may/may not hold true today?#RUDCIM_SP20
@anasmartinez21 I see this all the time around me. My favorite example is when a group of friends go out to a bar to hang out and spend all their time glued to their phones.
@AdobongInaMo Gambling by itself is already addictive but the ability to do it anywhere you like makes it so much worse. Gambling online makes it so hard to stop because the more you play, the more you feel invested in it and it becomes impassible to just stop when you spend few hundred
@VINCENT45656352 Really good example. It makes me think of VR chat, a massive a chatroom. People might form many friendships and relationships that might be more exiting than in real life, but in return they start to neglect what happens in the real world. #RUDCIM_SP2
An example of internet addiction would be video game streamers. Some become popular and can make a career out of it but the majority hope to find an audience/a way to maintain their gaming habit. Neglected real life responsibilities and relationships become a problem

@JeffKandathil For YouTubers online harassment is something that comes with the job. There is no way to please everybody. It sometimes feels like people find reasons to mean over the tiniest things.
@FionaMcLoughli9 I don't understand why people think they need to hurtful towards celebrities. If you don't like a musicians music, don't listen to it. There is no reason to hate on them
The most harassment I have ever seen is in online multiplayer video games. The things people say to each other over the slightest inconvenience. Some take up a notch by sending you hate mail and death threats. People feel a bit too confident behind a monitor. #RUDCIM_SP20
@lichen00089 I am a big fan of Brawl Stars. It has a cute art style and great team focused game mechanics. My friends and I spent a lot of time to create the ultimate team compositions and strategies. It was really fun #RUDCIM_SP20
@olsensean908 My friends and I also got into Warzone and one thing that stands out is that the game is most fun playing with your friends. Communication becomes very important as the match goes on and those who communicate best usually win. #RUDCIM_SP20
@KevinWo60987905 I spend so much time on RuneScape in my childhood. It was my first MMO that I played and I found it amazing to do quest and kill monsters with other people. #RUDCIM_SP20
World of Warcraft is a social virtual world I have been a part of for some time now. People from all over the world can join together for adventure and develop long lasting friendships. It is common to spend hours in a capital city just chatting with other players. #RUDCIM_SP20
@JeffKandathil#RUDCIM_SP20 Interesting example, I never really thought of Crunchyroll. I bet there are fan boy wars going on over there over their favorite anime. Seems like the perfect place for some reason
@FionaMcLoughli9#RUDCIM_SP20 I never really used Pinterest but it seems like a place where you can post just about anything anonymously. I bet there is a lot of post that do not appeal to everybody
@Rushali70929058 I think YouTube is a great platform to express your view and challenge those of other. I see so many conflicting vies battle it out in comments or through videos
#RUDCIM_SP20 Reddit is an example of a counterpublic. Subreddits can be of any topic and some develop communities that believe strongly in them that might not agree with opposing subreddits. It is “constituted through a conflictual relation to the dominant public” (Renninger)
