For years, policymakers in Europe and the US (looking at you California, Pennsylvania and New Jersey) treated refining capacity like something they could shrink without consequence.
The European mentality in particular was always "We'll just get it from somewhere else." (Russia/ Middle East)
Now we are all feeling the consequences.
You can't restrict infrastructure, discourage investment, close refining capacity, and then act surprised when prices rise during a crisis and you can't get it from somewhere else.
@lauren_e_lepage What is it with ball caps this cycle? From gift store Navy hats to a couple of guys who never played baseball, let alone wore a ball cap. There must be polling…
When we were kids, the social contagion was anerexia. If a girl came to you today with that, would you say, “Yes, you are fat,” or would have some compassion and get her help? How is this different? The compassionate and humane thing is to get these kids the help they desperately need.
@TheFrackingGuy Maine’s residential rates increased 36% in 2024, biggest increase in the country. And we’ve hardly even started the construction required.
@Robert_Wessels Before we go all-populist on this, how much of CMP’s increase is because of mandated transmission construction? Your problem is not with the utility, it is with the legislature and the Governor.
@AvivaKlompas A thought experiment: if Hamas laid down their arms, what would happen? Peace. If Israel laid down its arms? The extermination of Israel.
