Our HPCDSB system literacy team is hard at work meeting with every Kindergarten team and all grade 1 teachers. The importance of ongoing assessment and the explicit and systematic teaching of phonics are just two topics being covered. @HPCDSB@KarenKramers@karentigani
When grade 6-8 students at Blessed Carlo Acutis CES joined a @JeanneSauveHP Kindergarten class it was pure joy! Learning was alive & active as everyone engaged in a virtual, interactive experience of original stories, puppet shows, games, music & interactive surprises. @HPCDSB
Language acquisition is not the same for everyone & it’s not linear.
Proficiency w listening, speaking, reading, & writing in a new language fluctuates for many reasons incl background knowledge, lived experiences, motivation, desire, & cognitive load.
