Most of the traits presented a high stability in their variation. Pons (#EucarpiaTomato2022) concludes that although the genetic diversity of traditional varieties is low, they have a high phenotypic diversity.
Fruit size, shape and acidity are the traits that have the bigger contributions to differentiate these varieties. 8 phenoclusters were identified. A GWAS identified 1486 significant associations with 211 loci (159 were not reported before).
Clara Pons continues at #EucarpiaTomato2022 talking about European traditional genetic resources. TRADITOM is a project that aimed to characterize 1499 tomato varieties. 71 traits were characterized in 10 locations. A large phenotypic diversity depends on the country of origin.
