I was the Senior Vice President for Pieridae Energy, responsible for building the Goldboro LNG facility in NS.
We had a 20 year contract to sell LNG to Uniper, a German Utility company, worth $35 billion.
We had $4.5 billion in loan guarantees from the German government.
We completed the front-end engineering with a company called CB&I (later McDermot). $100 million.
We even had the permit to construct from the NSURB board (image below).
We had local support. We had everything except government support.
Trudeau said we had no business case, and we were in a dying industry.

Our wake-up call came in 2018 with the Humboldt Broncos tragedy. And we did basically nothing about it even though we’re aware of the training scams, the poor quality control, the subsequent collisions involving foreign drivers.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is just… dealing with it.
