The Book of Mormon plainly teaches, expounds upon and clarifies Christ's doctrine that His gift to us is not won with our works.* We are wholly dependent on Him for salvation.

*The church also plainly teaches that there are two forms of salvation: Salvation from physical death (the free gift) and salvation from sin (price paid, conditional forgiveness upon obedience and repentance). This latter "salvation" can also be referred to as exaltation. While Christ fully paid the price required for exaltation, He expects us to do our part, which is not remotely close to the effort He expended, but should be as close to "all that we have" to effect a "mighty change" in our hearts.

Thus, we are dependent on Christ's offer of both types of salvation, but only one requires effort on our part. Belief alone is insufficient for Christ to cover our sins. The entire purpose of mortality, Christ's atoning sacrifice and the Father's Plan of Salvation is to change man from a limited, disembodied spirit to a fully-realized exalted being capable of eternal good. The only variable is not God's ambiguous interest, but our desires and actions. He respects our agency and will honor our choices - because He loved us first.

@ITalkOfChrist Also, it depends on the specific anime consumed. I watched the 1980's Robot/Mecha anime as a youth. There are much more spiritually damaging anime out there and that could be what you are referring to. Media is media. There is good and bad in all things.
