I just figured out why @howardlutnick is indifferent to the stock market and the economy crashing. He and Cantor are long bonds. He profits when our economy implodes.
It’s a bad idea to pick a Secretary of Commerce whose firm is levered long fixed income. It’s an irreconcilable conflict of interest.
John Brown, emeritus prof at @ClarkUniversity, on Trump's #tariffs: “This pretty much blows up the world trading order that has been in place since the late 1940s... the bigger story is that tariffs are being imposed for reasons unrelated to the domestic impacts of trade." 1/3
Clark U. Prof. Brown: "The USA has abandoned leadership in the trading system for the sake of a short-term political stunt. I view this as performance as well as substance. Most of all it is about the effort to exercise power beyond what is legal in order to meet other ends." 2/3
John Brown, emeritus professor of economics at @ClarkUniversity, cont'd, "Since this theater is at the beginning of [Trump's] term, I expect that it will have longer-term consequences for our closest trading partners + international investment flows into the US." #tariffs 3/3
Just told @CNN: It is pretty rare to formulate a policy that is lose for American consumers, lose for American producers, lose for American influence in the world and only is benefiting our adversaries who are getting a great deal of satisfaction out of seeing this spectacle of traditional alliances being torn apart with these kind of threats.
Over the weekend @POTUS unveiled new tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. @WDMA is very concerned about the cooling effects this will have on manufacturing the U.S., job creation, and the knock on effects to affordability in the housing

An important perspective and one that needs to be chrystal clear to the American public. This is a tax you will have to pay for in higher prices, reduced access to goods and services across all sectors of the economy.
We will all pay the price for this.
Dithering Mike Johnson’s inability to make a choice and act decisively once again completely undermines his leadership team. They are right to be furious, I’d be furious too
This afternoon @jwhite_health presented @SenatorHassan with her 2024 Affordability Champion Awards. The Senator was honored for her efforts to make #healthcare more affordable - specifically her leadership on the MVP Act, to reward value-based payments for drugs.
The budget bill presents us with the first real opportunity to enact PBM reform that we have seen in some time. Passage of this bill would do more to lower the cost of prescription drugs than any measure of the past decade. If this opportunity slips, America’s patients will have lost a chance to have actual savings.
@RobiZ64@MarioNawfal This is another dumb take. DC has an aging RFK stadium and green space that is undeveloped. This bill allows the DC government to do what it wants to the space. The bill prohibits federal dollars for a stadium.
