And that’s a wrap on #NYSUTRA2026!
Grateful for our members, staff, and educators across New York who show up, stand together, and make this union strong. This is what it’s all about—solidarity in action. @nysut
Reminder: as educators our pensions are protected. The only people who can actually make decisions about our pensions are the elected TRS trustees. For over 100 years the TRS has made choices on how to maintain our pension system with one guiding principle: keep our pensions strong. That commitment continues. Don't let anyone mislead you. Our pension is guaranteed by the New York State constitution.
Sometimes we’re letting our mind work against us. We wake up dwelling on the negative, what’s not going to work out. Before long, there’s another thing to be depressed about. That negative will continue until you put a stop to it. You can spiral into doubt, or you can spiral into faith. You can spiral into worry, or you can spiral into peace.
Watch Tom Brown, Chair of the TRS Board and pensions expert, explain why the mayor's budget proposals won't impact our pensions. 👇
Our pensions through the Teachers’ Retirement System are constitutionally guaranteed by the State of NY and the TRS fund is completely separate from the city's reserves. Check out the video to learn more!
With over 42 years of proven leadership, Tom Brown has helped us grow our pensions and retire with peace of mind.
That’s why time and time again, UFT members chose Tom Brown as a trustee for the Teachers’ Retirement System.

In November, as he accepted the Charles Cogen Award at Teacher Union Day, United Federation of Teachers Secretary LeRoy Barr reminded the 1,700 unionists in attendance: “In this union, we don’t rise by standing above one another, we rise by lifting each other shoulder to shoulder in solidarity and purpose.”
Now that he has retired from his role, those words feel less like a quote and more like a summation of a career.
LeRoy has always embodied solidarity in action. His willingness to listen, learn and grow alongside others would become his leadership trademark. LeRoy has always worked to build trust with members, stopping at nothing to provide educators with the support they needed and becoming a steadfast example of a true unionist.
Congratulations, LeRoy, for more than three decades of dedication to students, educators and the labor movement. Thank you for reminding us that solidarity forever is a daily mission rather than a slogan. Read more about LeRoy at https://t.co/StQcGn95zM

Don’t let your soul become poisoned. If your soul is bitter, your life will be bitter. If your emotional well-being is contaminated, it’s going to affect your physical well-being. Check out this new message from Joel, "A Healthy Soul": https://t.co/fzO8ZeVnAZ
I am in Chicago… on my way home to NY…so at 7 pm , I took my handmade sign out and proudly stood with it at O’Hare Airport
Today it seems really important - as President Trump signs an EO abandoning the federal role in education- for us to stand up and Protect Our Kids
