Tony Dolan is already being missed by those patriots engaged in the ongoing struggle to keep our country safe and free. His personal commitment to the ideals that brought us together when we were still in our teens never wavered. Whether confronting leftist intellectual thuggery on campus in the 1960s or later in his life as the man President Reagan counted on to get his message to the American people, Tony Dolan was in the battle on the right side, all the way.

I am writing this tribute to Tony with pride. We first rallied together as activists in Bill Buckley’s Young Americans for Freedom(YAF). While so many young people were being told it wasn’t “cool” to believe in GOD or our country, Tony and I were teenagers who not only rejected that leftist nonsense but we dedicated our lives to exposing and defeating it. That didn’t mean that we weren’t having fun. Tony and I both hung around the music scene as well as the political world.

I can personally testify to the vital role Tony played as Chief Speechwriter during Reagan’s tenure as President of the United States. Tony fought internal battles with those who would have neutered Reagan’s speeches of inspiration by not even permitting President Reagan to see what was being suggested.

Tony Dolan was making sure President Reagan was not being blocked from being Reagan, articulate and courageous. Tony took the hits for those of us willing to give President Reagan the opportunity to reaffirm his own commitment to the policies and ideals that got him elected in the first place. “LET REAGAN BE REAGAN” the patriots insisted and thanks to Tony Dolan President Reagan could do that …and the rest of us had the opportunity to make our contribution to this internal battle unseen by the public.

So today, I ask all American patriots to join me in saluting Tony Dolan, the articulate Irish-American who made wonderful contributions to our country… just like Ronald Reagan.
