I have a story coming out soon with @APublicSpace — this interview, online ahead of the issue, with the wonderful @louishomeara, speaks a little about it & its influences https://t.co/g5mw1YOlcW
Started reading My Phantoms and the writing is excellent—the measure of it is how I can feel my blood pressure rising reading about the narrator’s father
In a new short story by Ben Lerner, a writer starts seeing a therapist—and they agree that she won’t read his work. “If you had an intense reaction to my writing of whatever sort, I’d worry it might influence how you related to me, but if you were more or less indifferent to it, I would feel devalued, misunderstood, rejected,” Lerner writes. When the narrator faces a medical emergency, and then writes about it, he starts pushing against the bounds of that agreement. Read the story: https://t.co/3ko9eO8zYe
i've kept chickens/ducks as pets & am used to farm animals being dismissed as essentially objects; and of course it is this way—if culture did consider them creatures worth protecting, the normalcy of their systematized torment & slaughter would suddenly seem pretty unbearable
Apropos of nothing, reminded that the production of foie gras is hideous, hideous cruelty. another reminder that way the human race treat animals on a regular basis is so nauseating...deeply evil stuff.
@exhaustdata and I am disappointed but ultimately not shocked by the “well you see it lambasts hollow autofiction and yet it is nothing more” takes that I’ve been seeing. I remember feeling that was a call I could NOT confidently make, which is one thing that made it feel so rich to me
@rapmusicplugpod@defcee My own fault for not digging back into Defcee’s catalogue too! loved Other Blues last year. spun this one twice tonight, may love it even more—gotta check out the new EP as well

@rapmusicplugpod@serengetidave@steeltippeddove is this KD series of albums a full concept / storyline, ie. worth engaging from the beginning (as a newcomer to Serengeti generally!) to get the full picture?
