@Tolsen711@RichardHills_@Peter_W “The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.”
@ruthf_@RichardHills_ I was taking a walk yesterday afternoon and saw an elderly lady starting to go for a dip. A lifeguard legged it over and must’ve warned her as she got right out. Yuck!
@JTayScience @toddniall $570 p.a. per kid seems like a bargain, if it allows a parent to return to work. Not many centres actually allow parents the 20 hours free care as they can add charges for extras, which add up to a lot. If they can’t work, then what? A benefit will cost a lot more.
@NewsroomNZ@KiwiFarah This is a really good thing. They were good initially, but the free chargers have hugely distorted the market, and have served their purpose.
@Publicwrongs @bernardchickey This. I subscribe to several substack newsletters (including Bernard’s, which is extremely good value!) and a few on Patreon, and it adds up to quite a bit each month. Much more than my North and South sub. The micro transactions are fairly macro in scale.
@Publicwrongs California has something like that. I had to cancel a WSJ subscription and it was a total horror show, but in Cali you can just do it on the website.
@CityAklccrg @arnie03@RichardHills_@HaydenDonnell Yep. I didn’t know Santa was there initially so it was a nice surprise to see the head at the entrance. I pretty quickly went from “ha, nice” to “oh no!”
