Ghana's 🇬🇭 President John Dramani Mahama has stated that small retail businesses are reserved for Ghanaian citizens.
He stated: “The only area is in small retail business. That is an area reserved for Ghanaians. Small retail business like corner shops and things... we don't expect that somebody will come from outside and come and open a container shop on your street corner.”
He added that foreigners are welcome for bigger investments, but these small-scale activities are protected for locals under Ghana's GIPC Act.
His remarks have sparked discussion, particularly in South Africa, as several African countries have similar measures to protect local livelihoods and small businesses.
