A lot of people talk about the famous ₹1,000 invested in the 1977 Reliance IPO. But how does that actually turn into ₹50+ lakh today?
Here is the simple details as shared in the excellent 📹 by @moneycontrolcom
Back in 1977, ₹1,000 got you 100 shares at ₹10 face value.
You didn't need to buy a single extra share after that. Over the next few decades, Reliance declared 6 bonus issues (1980, 1983, 1997, 2009, 2017, and 2024).
Those 100 original shares multiplied step-by-step into 4,096 shares.
At current market prices:
• 4,096 RIL shares = ~₹49.7 lakh
• 2,048 Jio Financial shares (from the 2023 spin-off) = ~₹4.5 lakh
That is roughly ₹54.25 lakh sitting in pure stock value today.
Add the cash received in yearly dividends, or look at what happens if you reinvested those dividends back into the stock, and the figure easily hits ₹80 lakh to ₹1 crore+.
Yes, ₹1,000 turned into a life changing portfolio. That is the real power of long-term compounding and backing Indian enterprise. Real wealth isn't built by trading every week, but it’s built by letting time do the work. 🇮🇳

The individual stock is the car, the theme is the gas, the overall environment is the surface you're driving on.
You can be driving a lamborghini with a full tank of gas, but if you're on a sheet of ice...you're not going too far. Need all three together. Chew on dat tonight.

Tamil Nadu’s Finance Secretary MA Siddique has dismissed concerns over slowing economic activity, pointing to a 16.1% rise in the State’s post-settlement GST revenue to ₹44,266 crore in H1 FY27.
In a chat with us, he makes his argument: post-settlement receipts, rather than headline gross collections, better reflect the State’s fiscal position and consumption.
“It is being wrongly portrayed that tax collection growth is a proxy of economic activity growth. Tax collections are proportional to economic activity only if tax rates and cash ratio (i.e. tax collected without using ITC) remain unchanged. In September 2025 and 2026, both tax rates and cash ratios were significantly different due to Gst 2.0,” he said.

2008-25 was an era where more wealth was made in stkmkts than in the real economy.we are likely now shifting to an era where, for awhile, more wealth will be created in the real economy than in stock markets.

“The really great business is one that doesn’t require good management. That’s a terrific business. The poor business is one that can only succeed or survive with great management.”
Rather than Adani or GMR I would prefer Fairfax to manage Chennai airport , owned by Prem Watsa , born in an orthodox middle class Christian family from Hyderabad . Went on to become the warren buffet of Canada. He and his son Benjamin Watsa are doing a great job of managing the Bangalore international airport.
Ps : Prem’s wife Nalini Loganathan Watsa is a charming lady hailing from TN .
