ontologically noisy // thinking abt words // dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening, drive like no one else is on the road etc etc
for me what it comes down to is counteracting the accelerationist aesthetic that pervades our lives right now, as well as the fact that AI almost always works as a yes-man. we want our students and ourselves to *pause* before we accept these new terms and make conscious choices

As a child I named all my pets Belly. & now people say like the show? NO! First that’s chronologically impossible second their names were belly full stop (not a nickname! I’m not a coward!) third it had WHIMSY and HEART when I did it
the most horrifying part for me was that these students were legit asking what would you want to do if AI made it so you didn’t have to work? and my answer - spend time reading & discussing & writing abt books - was incomprehensible to them. ART IS WHAT ALL THIS LIVING IS FOR
this fall a student said, to my face, after learning I had a PhD in literature, “have you heard the jokes online about how an English major is a pyramid scheme bc the only thing u can do is teach?” She had previously described using AI to read. Girl you NEED me to teach
@P1cklezzz@404paigenotfnd I’m not an expert re comp lit but for english lit, the standard would be programs that are fully funded for at least several years w full tuition remission. the stipend might be low (which is why you join your union) but there should be one. I would recc emailing for more info!
