Brazil's Senate has approved a constitutional amendment that would arbitrarily block land claims by Indigenous people. It's a terrible setback for Indigenous rights and Amazon conservation.
The Chamber of Deputies should reject it.

Brazil´s Congress didn´t pay any attention to the gravity of the climate crisis exposed at #COP30. Instead, a week later, it gave the green light to legal provisions that dismantle environmental licensing and seriously weaken the protection of the Amazon.

As #COP30 comes to a close, we remind governments of their international obligations to address climate change as well as to respect and protect environmental defenders' basic rights.

Organized crime has an increasing role in environmental destruction in the Amazon.
I explained its devastating impact on the rainforest and on Indigenous people and local communities in an interview with the International Risk Podcast.

As the world comes together to tackle the climate crisis at #COP30 in Brazil, its Congress is considering proposals that would exacerbate it. Those measures could have severe impact on the Amazon, which is critical for global climate. New @hrw piece:

Excellent news!!!
Brazil´s Chamber of Deputies has just approved the Escazú Agreement. It now goes to the Senate.

https://t.co/RPeT2ZiBGA
Brazil's @Incra_oficial should publicly reject a proposal to downsizing the sustainable resettlement PDS Terra Nossa, in the Amazon.
If approved, this proposal would reward illegal land-grabbers with impunity and leave residents vulnerable to violence.

Senegalese people displaced by tidal surges intensified by climate change are suffering ongoing rights violations.
Senegal should urgently provide a durable solution and develop policy to ensure rights-respecting planned relocation.

Now it’s up to the National Congress to uphold these vetoes, block what could be Brazil’s biggest environmental setback in decades, and show climate leadership as the country prepares to host COP30.
@LulaOficial's vetoes to the #DevastationBill, including the one that blocks fast-track licenses (“LACs”) for projects with medium pollution potential, are critical for environmental protection in Brazil.
https://t.co/nXoL6YMyMY
However, it is concerning to have maintained fast-track licensing rules for so-called “strategic projects” (LAE), which seem to prioritize economic interests over environmental protection.
