Today, the #UofG community honoured the groundbreaking achievement of evolutionary biologist, Dr. Paul Hebert, for the pioneering work he and the team at the Centre of Biodiversity Genomics have accomplished in DNA barcoding to catalogue life on Earth.

McCain is creating a world where we better discover & share knowledge of the practices, both time-honoured & reimagined, that best nurture our soils and the life within it.
Research at @CBG_UofG@uofg is making it possible. Check out my Op-ed in the post below to learn how:
#WorldSoilDay2023 🌱➡️ To the untrained eye, this is just a pile of soil. To McCain, it is the key to unlocking sustainable, regenerative ag practices, securing our soil’s ability to grow our crops for generations to come.

Finding some really cool insects in different parts of #SouthAfrica! Including the vector for African Horse Sickness (Culicoides pycnostictus) and a long-tongued fly (Philoliche sp.)! Excited what we are still going to find! #biodiversity#pollinators#Science#insect
Museum collections provide some of the most important data to help us understand and predict what is happening under a changing climate. However, our collections pre-date electronic databases by hundreds of years so how do we know what we have?

Business is showing up for biodiversity. While the "deal lacks a mandatory requirement for companies to track and disclose their impact on biodiversity", it was encouraging to see that many were present to speak on how they are setting ambitious goals for themselves.
Dr. Andrew Deutz, the Director of Global Policy, Institutions and Conservation Finance at The Nature Conservancy said it well:
