@FullSpeedAhead0@dorothyofisrael@ianmiles Have you ever worked in a school? At the beginning of the year every student and parent is given access to a student handbook that lays out rules, guidelines, and CONSEQUENCES based on board policy. If you choose not to read the handbook or abide by the rules, that’s on you.
@bearrun@citala_li@joshuadavidlee@ianmiles It’s not theft. At the beginning of the year every student and parent is given access to a student handbook that lays out rules, guidelines, and CONSEQUENCES based on board policy. If you choose not to read the handbook or abide by the rules, that’s on you.
From 2010 to 2019, the number of teachers initially certified fell by about 20%, according to a report from the University of Houston.
The report also reveals that average pay for teachers has not increased between 2010 and 2019; it instead decreased from $55,433 to $54,192.
If the post from Michael Quinn Sullivan attacking the value of public school teachers made you mad (and it should have), you have to expand who you are mad at. Sullivan is just the face for a bunch of billionaires and millionaires who run the orgs you should really be mad at.
“Public education in Texas is about employing otherwise unemployable adults, not educating kids” — If that strikes a nerve in you, as it does me, find out what candidates for public office the Texas Scorecard is backing and vote for literally anyone else. ✅
What impact do read alouds have? 3rd grade teachers are reading historical fiction books to their class and after a day my Ranger in Time books and I Survived are almost all checked out. Never underestimate the power of reading out loud!
When I was I college the education classes would fill up fast. There were usually at least 30 people in a classroom. Latest reports show class avgs before COVID at only 12. Really? Now it’s down to 2 or 3 per class? Does it really have to come to this?
