We are overwhelmed by the generosity of this amazing community! The boxes are bursting at the seams! Thank you families, and staff members for contributing to our collection for Street Haven. We will be doing our drop off of all items this week. @BishopMacTCDSB@StreetHaven

Working through obstacles, not giving up, and knowing when to take a lil break! A little peek into some of the awesome problem-solving conversations that were happening around the room.
Big announcement: our praying mantis eggs hatched! It has been a very exciting morning over here! We are observing their behaviour & tracking their life cycle. A few slipped out the top, but rest assured that the habitat has been secured & all praying mantis’ have been returned!
Challenge: move to a new paper every few minutes. The number at the top has to be the answer. Obstacle: you can’t repeat the same equation another group has done! So many different ways to get the same number! Little Math geniuses over here 😊
An awesome challenge from our SNAP instructor Rolando! We are practicing using our SNAP strategies when we are feeling frustrated or stuck. Take a deep breath, count to ten, think cool thoughts.
It warms my whole heart to see kidlets sharing comfy chairs to read side by side; or pointing out funny parts of stories to a friend nearby. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we love starting our Fridays in the Library 📚
Everyone had a different way of sharing the cookies equally. Groups of 5,3,1, & 15. One S split the cookies into 2 groups. Some Ss thought it was impossible because 15 is an odd number, but the S explained that they’d cut the remaining cookie in half. 7 and a half cookies each!
What a day! We had another special delivery today from some of @tonjatenn and Zenny’s friends. We were given some beautiful “Earth Dumplings”! This made our day. We have to get planting! Thank you!
Our ootheca has arrived! We learned that praying mantis’ are usually found in grasslands, so we spent recesses finding some things to make them feel at home. We measured the perimeter of our tub to make a lid, and made sure to add some breathing holes. Now we wait!
The pizzeria is open for business! Students are putting their knowledge of fractions to work by making pizzas with specific orders. 1/4 pepperoni, 3/4 olives? We’ve got you covered! 🍕
We have a delivery of praying mantis eggs coming soon! Ss were asked what they think we need to know about these creatures before welcoming them into our class. We’ve got a lot to learn! Let the research begin!
The age old question: will it float? Today our little scientists used their knowledge of buoyancy and density to make predictions about the buoyancy of waterproof classroom objects. Key word: waterproof!
Thank you to @coliveira_02 s AWESOME Gr 5 leaders for guiding us through some cooperative games this afternoon! To quote one of our kidlets: “What a great way to spend a nice sunny day!”
