@murphymike The regional attraction theory always seemed strange to me. As a fellow (Dearborn) MI native, MN always felt like a million miles away. And I’m predisposed to vote against anyone from OH or a Chicago. As a five year old, I liked Gerry Ford because he was from MI. That’s it
@umichvoter FWIW, as a “moderate Republican “ who would love nothing more than be able to cast a vote for president for the first time since 2012, I’m pretty sure Buttigieg would repel more moderates than he’d attract. Kamala/Pete - No chance. Kamala/Shapiro or Kelly - I might bite. Go Blue!
Nancy Pelosi may have just destroyed the primary system. Why go through the trouble of primaries when you can wait until summer to choose your nominee?
In the Hollywood version, the anti-Hitler plotters told Tom Cruise only to act if Himmler was also present- “Why remove a madman only have him replaced by a lunatic?”
So why remove somebody who’ll lose to Trump by 5 pts only to replace him with someone who’ll lose by 15?
@jpodhoretz Many easy ones. The Union in the Civil War. US and Britain in WWI. Both sides in the English civil war. The French Revolutionary army, especially pre-Bonaparte.
So is having multiple speakers point out that Putin didn’t invade anyone during Trump’s time in office (true) an effort to make viewers not notice that no one is saying what his Ukraine policy actually would be?
@RLHeinrichs Identifying Iran as the adversary was a bright spot that distinguished Trump from his predecessor and successor. His inability to do the same with other competitors/adversaries (Russia, PRC, DPRK) was a failing.
Justices should be elite. And they should not be “accountable” after they’ve taken the bench—they should be insulated so they can make legal decisions that may be unpopular, like striking down statutes.
Please stop using nonsensical populist terms in place of actual arguments
